+The Charter is written in a lightweight markup language known as Markdown.  Markdown was chosen because it is easy to read and edit, has minimal formatting conventions, and changes will be easy to see and track in version control software.  Markdown can be viewed through a renderer -- which this website has built in -- allowing the Charter to be interactively viewed directly from its source.
